Stump removal vs stump grinding: What’s the difference?

Stump removal is the process of removing a stump from the ground. This typically involves using a forklift or a crane to lift the stump and place it in a dump truck for transport.

Stump grinding, on the other hand, is a more detailed process that involves grinding away at the stump until it is completely gone. This is usually done using a grinder, saw, or an axe.

If you have a stump that needs to be grinded and the ground surface is no longer usable, there are several options available to fill the hole. What is tree stump grinding?

Stump grinding is the process of removing a small or large tree stump and typically the roots as well. This is done by an actual tree stump grinder that is able to maneuver and place its high-speed spinning blade, that includes sharp teeth, that will move across the stump in a back and forth motion removing the stump and turning the wood stump into wood chips.

How long does stump grinding typically take?

The time it takes is completely dependent on the size and location of the stump. The average amount of time it takes is about 2 hours. At minimum it will be about 1 hour and maximum up to 5 hours. We like to make sure that the stump & roots are gone as well us the cleanup is done properly.

What to do with leftover wood chips and sawdust after stump has been removed?

Sawdust and wood chips (bark) from stump grinding can be useful for a variety of purposes, including gardening, pest control, and even cooking. When mixed with water or other liquids, sawdust forms an alkaline solution that is effective at neutralizing acids in the environment. This makes it great for use as a fertilizer or pesticide on plants and lawns. Additionally, mixed sawdust can be used as kindling for fires (it's high in moisture content) or to start stoves and wood-burning appliances. Removal of all materials is an option after completion and will be included in the bid.
